Psalms 128:1

The Bible says in Psalm 128:1, “Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.” It is important to fear the Lord. According to this verse, it is how to be happy. To fear includes the idea of honor and respect, but of course it means to fear. God is Judge. God sees all and knows all. God punishes sin.  You better fear getting on the wrong side of that. If you do really fear God, it will be known by your actions. You will walk “in his ways.” To walk in God’s ways means that you are surrendered to Christ and you want to go His way for you, and one of the reasons that you want to go His way is that you know the consequences if you do not.

The rest of this Psalm talks about in what ways you will be blessed and happy if you fear the Lord and walk in His ways. The Bible says in Psalm 128:2-3, “For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.[3] Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.” You will be given opportunity and work from God. That is a great blessing. Ask those who do not have work. One of the purposes of life is to work and to accomplish something. To be happy you need that feeling of accomplishment. Most people will get married. That is the pattern from the Garden of Eden. God made Adam, and then God said, “It is not good that man should be alone.” And God made Eve and brought her to the man. If you pray and if you are blessed, you will find the one that God made for you. And you will have a family, and your children will grow into mature and responsible human beings who believe God and who do good for their fellow man. That is what normally happens to those who fear God, and of course, there are some exceptions to that.

The Bible says in Psalm 128:4-6, “Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.[5] The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.[6] Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel.” These verses continue the theme of this Psalm that you will be blessed and you will be happy if you fear the Lord. It is interesting that Zion and Jerusalem are mentioned in verse five. Zion is one of the names for Jerusalem. God has chosen Jerusalem as His capital city. It is not that way yet, but it will be when Jesus comes back. Of all the cities in the world and in the history of the human race, Jerusalem is God’s chosen city. David established the city of Jerusalem, and God loved David so much that God established that the Messiah would come through the lineage of David and the Messiah would rule from Jerusalem, not only over Israel, but over the whole earth. And so, if you get aboard with God’s plan by trusting in Jesus and following Him, you enter in to all the blessings that will flow from Jerusalem. The evil people of the world will not be able to stop it from happening. They have no power compared to God.

In the short term, you will live to see your grandchildren and what God does in and through them. In the long term you will see “peace upon Israel.” It will be an eternal peace, and it will be brought by the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ the Son of God. As soon as Jesus comes back and destroys the armies of the world who will be under the control of the antichrist.
