Psalms 56:1

“In God I Have Put My Trust”

Psalms 56:1-2 “Be merciful unto me, O God: For man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me. Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High. ”

All good things begin with prayer. Salvation begins with a prayer. Many of the Psalms of the Bible begin with a prayer. It is good to pray. Ask and ye shall receive Jesus said. Call unto me and I will answer thee and shew they great and mighty things which thou knowest not.

If you have enemies especially those that oppose you spiritually speaking then you will definitely need to spend time in prayer to Jesus asking Him for mercy.

Psalms 56:3 says, “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise His word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”

You have two choices when it comes to how you handle your enemies. You can be afraid or you can trust in God. The same is true about any situation in life there will either be fear or there will be faith.

The phrase, “I will praise His word,” is an interesting phrase. It brings out the importance of relying upon the word of God for faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. If you want to trust in God more then praise his word. Read his word, learn his word memorize his word.

Prayer, the word and trusting in God go together. The more you read God’s Word the more you will pray. The more you pray and read God’s word the less fear you will have.

Psalms 56:5-7 says, “Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.  Shall they escape by iniquity in thine anger cast down the people, O God.?”

These verses give a lot more detail towards what the enemies of a Christian are like. Notice that it says “they wait for my soul.” In other words they are your enemies because they seek to destroy you spiritually, to damage, to destroy your faith in Christ. They seek to get you to sin.

Notice the phrase, “they mark my steps.” In other words they are paying attention to what you do. They are analyzing plotting and calculating the information and using it to lay snares and nets of destruction against you. With enemies like these you will need to trust in the one true living God.

Psalms 56:8-9 says, “Thou tallest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? When I cry unto Thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.” No matter how many enemies you have you will always have Jesus who cares. He knows your tears and your sorrows. The very hairs of your heard are numbered and so are your tears. God will have compassion and give comfort especially when mortal men do not.

Psalms 56:10-12 “In God will I praise His word: in the LORD will I praise His word. In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. Thy vows are upon me, O god: I will render praises unto thee.”

If you are truly trusting in the LORD and His Word then you will be thankful and this means you will praise God. Notice the phrase, “Thy vows are upon me.” In other words the promises of God. If you remember the many promises of God then you are truly trusting in God.

Psalms 56:13 says, “For Thou hast delivered my soul form death: wilt not Thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?” If you know Jesus Christ as savior then your soul has been delivered from death, eternal death in the lake of fire. There are times of course that God delivers a person from physical death. Jesus certainly is capable of doing such.

Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” The reason to be delivered is to live for Jesus. If you are not living for Jesus on this earth then saved or unsaved you are in danger of dying.

Today is the day of salvation. God is love. God loves you and wants you to be delivered from death. Jesus will save you simply pray too Him and ask Him for forgiveness of your sins.
