Psalms 41:1-2

“Blessed is he that considereth the poor”

Psalms 41:1-2,   Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.” Every good gift comes from God. God is a giver because God is love. The greatest gift of God is the spiritual deliverance from sin through Jesus Christ.

Men have both spiritual needs and physical needs. If only men were more like God and gave more. If God gives to you more than you need it is so you can give to others to help those in need. Giving and mercy go together. To give to someone to meet their needs is a way of being merciful to that person. There are different ways to give. You can give of your money and possessions.  You can give your time. You can give of your abilities.  When it comes to giving there are really two basic ways to give: for someone’s physical needs or someone’s spiritual needs.

Those who should be giving for the spiritual needs of others are Christians. A Christian can give towards the spiritual needs of others through preaching and prayer. Sadly most preachers in this world are false teachers because they do not teach the Bible. They teach their own ideas, or they teach other men’s ideas and not the Word of God. Romans 10:17 says, “So then Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” John 3:34 says, “For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.” To pray for someone is to give of your time and effort for a person’s spiritual needs. Preaching and prayer always go together.

Psalms 41:1-2,   Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.” In talking about considering the poor think about the great suffering that goes on in this world by those who are poor. Every country in this world has starving children. Every country in this world has those in need of medical attention.  Every country in this world has those that are homeless and destitute.  It’s always good to give to help those in need because human life is precious.

However when it comes to giving and to helping those in need there is a very important principle that should be remembered because this principle applies to everything in life. When you do something make sure it is God’s will before you do it even when it comes to giving to help the poor. II Corinthians 9:7-8 says, “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.

One practical side to this is making sure that your giving is not going to waste. Sometimes there are organizations that do not use the donations they receive for what they say they are using them for. Sometimes there are those who are not really in need and they are simply taking advantage of those who are giving. This is one of the great failures of the country of the United States. The United States has given so much to help those in need. But over the years they have failed to do it properly and so much of what they have given has gone to waste because it has not gone to the starving children in the war torn countries instead it has gone to those who have caused the children to suffer.  These kinds of tragedies would not happen if only men would let God guide them in their giving to the poor.

Psalms 41:1-2 says,   Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.” In these verses in Psalms a very important truth about life is taught. It is the principle of sowing and reaping. For the most part people will not treat you better than you treat them. The false religions of the world such as the Buddhist religion have a similar teaching called Karma. The problem with the teaching of Karma is that it is partly true and partly false. As with all false teachings there is often a subtle false teaching mingled with some truth. Karma teaches a works salvation basically. Karma says that what you do to others is what will happen to you. This is not always true because life is a spiritual warfare and there is great opposition against the truth of the Word of God.  Sometimes, even when you do good bad will happen to you.

The reason to give to others is not because you want them to treat you good in return but the reason to give to others and to help those that are poor is because of the value of human life. Psalms 41:1-2, “Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.” It is a great and a noble work to help meet the physical needs of others. But it is an even greater work to help those that are poor in spirit.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:3, “Blessed are the poor in sprit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. To give is to be merciful. This is why the act of God’s forgiveness for sin in giving His only begotten son to die on the cross for the sins of the world is the greatest act of giving ever. All men are given the opportunity to have eternal life and forgiveness of sins. God is the one who gives this opportunity to men. This is why Jesus said in John 6:65, “Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

Psalms 41:1-2 says, “Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.” It is very important to notice that helping those in need is associated with God’s protection, provision and deliverance. In other words by serving God, by doing what is right, by seeking God’s will in your life you will live as long as God wants you to on this earth. There really is no reason to be on this earth if you are not living for Christ. Those who are unsaved are in danger of eternal judgment in the lake of fire. This is why every day that they live is another day God has given them in His mercy so that they might have a chance to repent of their sins and turn to Jesus. And this is why a Christian should never stop serving Christ no matter what failures or persecutions come his way.

Psalms 41:1-2, “Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.” Who is the enemy? The enemy are those that oppose the Word of God. The will of the enemy is to kill, to steal, and to destroy. But the will of God is that men believe on him whom he hath sent, Jesus Christ who died for the sins of the world.

This is why giving to help the poor is a great work. By meeting the physical needs of those in need you are helping to keep them alive so that they have another day to live, another day to have chance to hear the gospel of Christ if they are lost or another day to serve Christ if they are a Christian. And this is why in giving to help the poor there is no greater way to give than whatever way God burden’s you in your heart to give. Sometimes the greatest way to give is in the giving of the story of gospel of Jesus Christ. How few there are that give the gospel to the world. The world needs to hear the message of the gospel so that men will repent of their sins and turn to Jesus for redemption from their sins.  2 Corinthians 4:3-4 says, “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” God considereth the poor. And God has considered your need for righteousness. Repent of your sins and turn to Jesus and receive eternal life.
