Psalms 113:1

Psalms 113:1 says, “Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD

Psalms is a book of the Bible about praising the Lord. A very big part of praising the Lord has to do with how you treat the name of God. Do you use the name of God as a curse word. If you say such words and phrases as O my god, gosh, and other similar phrases or even the name of Jesus Christ as an expression you are far from being a person that praises the Lord.

Why should we praise the Lord? We should praise Him because He is the Lord. He is great and all His works are great and done in power and majesty and mercy and truth.

Psalms 113:2-3 says, “Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD'S name is to be praised.”

Every hour of the day every day of the week, every month of the year God should be praised. I don’t know anyone who praises God this much. One thing is for sure praising God is for more than just when your in a church buildling.

Psalms 113:4-5 says, “The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens. Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high.”

We should praise God because He is above all things, above nations, above men, above kings, even above the glory of the stars in the heavens. God is greater than all these things. There is nothing nor no one greater than God.

Psalms 113:6 says, “Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!” Its amazing to think that God humbleth himself.

The great passage in the bible on God humbling himself is found in Philippians 2:5-11 which says, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Oh yes most that are familiar with the Bible know that Jesus humbled himself when He came to this earth and died on the cross. But consider what Psalms 113:6 is saying when it says “Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!” Its true God is so high and great that to even look upon or think about earth and mankind and the things therein He must humble himself. God is so great to even think about the angels in heaven and all the beauty of streets paved with gold God is humbling himself to look thereupon. O how great God is.

Perhaps we should remember this the next time we come to God to talk to Him in prayer. God is great and mighty and He humbleth himself to even consider you. The great eternal being whose brilliance is brighter than the sun shinning in its strength. Is God humbling himself, He certainly is, otherwise the glory of God would blaze upon you and you would most certainly die from its blast.

“Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!”

Psalms 113:7-8 says, “He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.” These are amazing verses and they teach us something important about what God has planned for His children.

There are several great examples in the Bible of God raising the poor out of the dust and setting them among princes. One example is Moses. Moses was born a Hebrew slave and raised among the princes of Egypt. Of course the greatest example is Jesus Christ himself. Jesus was born in a lowly manger and died on a cross rising from the grave and become King of Kings.

God loves to take the lowly and exalt it. God loves to do things in a way very different from what men do. God has a great plan for all those who trust in him.

Psalms 113:7-8 says, “He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.”

Think of it this way man is formed of the dust of the earth. And God raiseth us up out of the dunghill of sin through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 1:5-6 says, “And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”

Revelation 5:10 says, “And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”

2 Timothy 2:12 says, “If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us.”

From the dust of the earth man is created. And from the dunghills of sin God wants to lift up man through the blood of Jesus. Those who trust in Jesus have a great destiny ahead of them. The Christians shall reign and rule on the earth during the 1000 kingdom of Christ.

God is a God of justice and so it makes sense that God will let the Christians be kings and reign on the earth. It is only justice and fair to do after all they suffer and sacrifice and after all the good Christians have done in the world to make the world a better place.

If you follow Jesus today it may be a lonely road, it may be a down trodden road, it may be road of persecution and suffering with a heavy bitter cross to bear but one day your cross will be exchanged for crown and you shall be a king on the earth ruling with Jesus for 1000 years.

Psalms 113:9 says, “He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.”

This verse is teaching that God is the life giver.  Which brings us to the subject of abortion. When a child comes into this world it is because God has given life. How precious human life is. Do you know how precious human life is? When a baby is in the womb it is still a human. If you put a baby in a sac is it still a baby whether it is in or out of a sack? Yes. If you put a baby in a container is it still a human life yes. A baby in a womb is still a baby, a human life.

Is a baby human life at conception? Yes it is? If it was not life it would not be growing it would be decaying. An embro and a fetus grow because their alive. Flesh that is not alive does not grow it decays. To say it is not life simply is not true.

As soon as conception takes place a human life with a soul comes into existence. How do we know that Human life begins at conception? Well one way of looking at is from a practical physical standpoint. Just as I already said. Something that is growing is alive, something that is decaying is not. When an embryo or a fetus dies in the Mother’s womb it starts to decay. That stands to reason that it is alive if it is going.

Of course the most important point to look at concerning the topic of life at conception is what the Bible says. The Bible does have some verses dealing with this topic. Lets look at them.

One good example of the fact that a baby in the womb is a human life is the example of John the Baptist. The Bible says of John the Baptist in Luke 1:36 and 44,

“And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.”

“For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.”

We know from this story that John was about 6 months old. In some places of the world abortions are performed past 6 months. Was John  alive at 6 months yes. Was John a baby? Yes. Was John an individual and not just a mass of flesh attached to the mother yes.

But lets go back even farther to perhaps one of the most used passages in the Bible to argue against abortion and for life at conception. Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”

This verse is talking about the prophet Jeremiah. It says before I formed thee in the belly I knew Thee. The key here is to understand the word knew. What does the word knew mean?  The Word know seems like a very simple word. But if you look up the Hebrew usage of it you will see it is a word filled with meaning. It means to be aware of, to consider, to think about, to discover, to feel to declare.

This brings us to the root of the problem. Human life is more than just the physical. God is the life giver even more than a mother and father are. The mother and father are involved in the physical part of human life. God is too. But God is also involved in the putting of the Spirit of man into its body. When does human life begin? Is it at conception. Maybe it is even before. Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee. God creates the soul and God puts it into the body.

Man is created in the image of God. God is the one who gives life. God is the one who makes the barren womb to keep house. If you take God out of the equation then you devalue human life. How do we know and understand how to even value human life. By knowing that we are created in the image of God and that God is the one who gives life.

Psalms 113:9 says, “He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.”

Just think about how this is phrased in the Bible. He maketh the baren woman to keep house. To keep house. What does that mean to keep house? Why it means the womb is the baby’s house. The place where the baby lives until it has grown up enough to become more independent of its more and able to survive in the world. To keep house. The womb is a container, the womb is a house for the baby.

One of the greatest arguments of the liberal woman who support abortion other than the argument that a baby in the womb is not a life is the argument that a woman has the right to do what she wants with her body. The truth is the woman does not have the right, neither does the man. Its not part of her body it’s a separate body dwelling in a house, the womb. If you have two Siamese twins is one a life and one not, does one have the right to decide to abort the other? No. It’s almost the same thing for a woman and a baby. The two bodies are attached by the umbilical cord. But just because the baby is attached does not make it a lifeless mass of flesh.

A baby is not a cancer tumor to be removed a baby is a life.

O how evil is abortion.  Since abortion became legal in the United States in the 1970’s there have been over 50 million babies which have been aborted. 50 million. That is a great number of deaths, greater than many many wars added together. About 940,000 Americans died in world war two. Compare this number to 50 million babies. What a tremendous difference. How about how many American soldiers died in the Iraqi war? 4,487 and 32,226 were wounded. How about how many soldiers died  in the Vietnam war? 200-250,000. How many soldiers died in the civil war? 620-644,000.

People get upset about war in this country and they protest against it. They have a right to be upset and concerned because of all the young men that go to war and sacrifice their lifes. It is a tragedy to see any young person cut down in the prime of life.

But what about the little babies. They don’t even get 18  years. They get days weeks and months. Remember sine 1973 Roe vs wade in the United States 50-60 million babies have been aborted.

These are statistics I got off the internet and there pretty accurate. Its very easy to get this kind of information online. Now comes the big horrific statistic. How many babies have been aborted in the World not just the United States. I found a statistic that said since 1980 in the world the number is over 1.4 billion.

The abortion of babies is a great slaughter of innocence, a great waste of potential in human life.

You might ask yourself the quest what does this verse in Psalms have to do with the previous verses that we were just discussing? Well think of it this way. If God can raise a person from the dust and give them life and bring them out of the dunghill of sin through the grace and blood of Jesus and make their destiny to become a king and a priest on the earth. Then this potentional destiny is something that all men can have even those babies that are aborted.

It is important to see the potential in men. It is important to remember what God’s plan for mankind is. By thinking about what God’s plan for each individual is we can have a greater value of human life. If only people would see the potential of these poor innocent babies that are aborted if only they would remember that God wants them to have life and freedom, to grow up trusting in Him with the possible destiny of one day becoming a king and priest on the earth, perhaps then they would not murder the innocent babies.

Psalms 113:9 says, “He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.”

God is the life giver. This why people lie to themselves and tell themselves that  the child in the womb is not a life because they don’t want to feel guilty when they take a life. O How great God is. How great are the things that God does. God gives life out of the dust of the earth. God raises up the sinner form the dunghill of sin through the grace of Jesus Christ and makes them a king on the earth.

Jesus said suffer the little children to come unto me. The great comfort that can be found in this horrible slaughter of innocent life that we call abortion, the great comfort we find is that little babies go to heaven. Heaven will be filled little children and laughter and the voices of their praise to God.

If you have never turned from your sins to Jesus you can do so today. He can raise you out of the dunghill of sin. Jesus can teach you how to value human life and how to live life to fullest the way it was meant to be lived. Today is the day of opportunity. For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son.
