ROMANS 8:35
“What Shall
Separate Us From The Love of Christ?”
God is love. God loves himself and God
loves you. Therefore you should love yourself.
Who shall separate us from the love of
Christ? No one and nothing can. Once you enter into a relationship with God
through faith in Christ you will never be separated from him or his love.
Who shall separate us from the love of
Christ? Shall tribulation or distress?
Tribulation means anguish and trouble. When horrible things happen to you as a believer you can
know that you still have the love of God. There are many horrible things that
can happen to a person in life. You might catch cancer, your children might die
young, you or your family might become the victim of a horrendous crime, you
might lose your job or your health, you might lose your freedom even. But in
all these things you will still have the love of Christ in your life.
The thing to remember about Christ is
that he died on the cross because he loves you. He was separated from God on
the cross. Christ became sin for us. He bare our sins in his own body. He was
separated from the love of God so that you would never be separated from his
love. This is how much God loves you.
Who shall separate us from the love of
Christ? Shall persecution? Those that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall
suffer persecution. There are many
people in this world that oppose the truth. In some ways everyone who is not a
believer is opposed to the truth because they are opposed to themselves. 2
Timothy 2:25, “Those that oppose themselves.
As A Christian persecution will come
your way.
God is love. God loves himself. It is
important to understand this. The love of God is there for the world, but for
the believer we always have the love of God no matter what because of our
position in Christ. The love of God does many things for our faith. When would
a Christian be likely to doubt the love God? When bad things happen in life? It
is possible. The other most likely
situation is when a Christian sins, they
might doubt that God loves them.
Therefore, we should remember the story
of the apostle Peter. Peter sinned very bad when he denied Christ three times
at the crucifixion. And this is what Jesus said to him in John 21:14-17, “This is now the third
time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from
the dead. So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of
Jonas, lovest thou me more than these?
He saith unto him, yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him,
feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest
thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith
unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas,
lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time,
Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou
knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Jesus asked Peter if he loved him.
Peter knew that God loved him. Jesus did not’ condemn Peter for his great
failure. He asked him three times if he loved him. We have the love of God
eternally because of our position in Christ. What we really need is to love God
more. We do not love God when we sin.
Romans 8:35, “Who shall separate us
from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or
famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?” If you are suffering does it mean
God does not love you? No. God is love. And a believer is in Christ. If you are
starving and hungry, does that mean God does not love you? No. God is love and
as a believer you always have the love of God in your life. If you lack clothes,
does that mean God doesn’t love you. No. You have a position in Christ where
your sins are forgiven. Therefore, God loves you because your sins are
forgiven. God loves you because of what He did for you. This is amazing and
eternal love.
Romans 8:36, “As it is written, For thy
sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the
slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him
that loved us.”
Romans 8:37, “For I am persuaded, that
neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things
present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature,
shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our
Lord.”
Dying might be one of the things human
beings fear the most. It can be a scary experience and a great challenge of
your faith. But even in death we have the love of God. Psalms 116:15, “Precious
in the sight of the Lord are the death of his saints.”
This verse in Romans also says that
life cannot separate us from the love of God. How might life make people think
that God doesn’t love them. When bad things happen to them? When they are
distracted by the things of this world? Either way God loves you. Don’t let
life distract you from God’s love.
It is good to think about God’s love.
The love of God can’t be over emphasized especially in this age of grace. You
really can’t think about God’s love too much. And what is it that we need to
hear? That God loves us. All human beings need love. Human beings have an
innate need for God’s love and for God’s love more than the love of other human
beings. If you have the love of God in your life what more do you need?
God is love. For God so loved the world
he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish
but have everlasting life. Turn from your sins to Jesus today and receive the
love of God for eternity.
