Revelation 5:1-4 says, And I saw in the right hand of Him that
sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven
seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to
open the book, and to loose the seals thereof? And no man in heaven, nor in
earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look
thereon. And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read
the book, neither to look thereon.
All the events of human history are kept recorded. God keeps a
record of what happens. The book mentioned here is associated with the events
that will unfold during the great tribulation. The events that unfold during
the great tribulation is the judgment of God on the nations of the world.
Considering it is the judgment of God it should be no wonder that no man is
worthy to open the book. Because the judgment of God as we will see in the next
several verses is something that God and God alone is worthy to mete out.
Revelation 5:5-7 says, And one of the
elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root
of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals
thereof. And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four
beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain,
having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent
forth into all the earth. And he came and took the book out of the right hand
of Him that sat upon the throne.
The key phrase to notice here is stood a Lamb as it had been
slain. Why is Christ worthy when no other man is? Well Christ is God
and Christ was slain for the sins of the world that is why Christ is worthy to
open the book and to mete out the judgment of God upon this world during the
time of the great tribulation. Christ became sin for us. Christ suffered the
judgment of God for the sins of the world. And therefore Christ will give out
the judgment of God upon the world.
Revelation 5:8-10 says, And when he had taken the book, the
four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every
one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of
saints. And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and
to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by
thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast
made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Once again in these verses we are told why the Lamb is worthy: for thou wast
slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood.
The great tribulation will be a time of answered prayers. This is
why the prayers of the saints are mentioned in these verses. Yes there are many
prayers that Christians have prayed which are yet unanswered: prayers for
justice and judgment because of those who have suffered in this life by reason
of ungodly men and those who have died for the name of Jesus. The penal systems
of governments cannot bring final justice. In fact most governments of this
world have caused great injustice towards Christians in their oppositions
towards the truth. But one day the injustices of this world will be brought to
justice and all those who have suffered and lost in this life for Jesus will
see their prayers and their cries for restitution and even their desire for
just vengeance answered.
Revelation 5:11-12 says, And I beheld, and I heard the voice of
many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the
number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands.
Saying with a loud voice, worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power,
and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
Worthy is the lamb that was slain. This is the 3rd time
in these verses that Jesus is metioned as being worthy for having been slain.
There is an emphasis here on the fact that Jesus died for your sins and mine.
Here as the seals are about to be opened and judgment begin on the nations of
the world we still see the burden of the Lord that the lost people of this
world would hear the message: worthy is the Lamb that was slain.
There will be no excuse when judgment comes. Everyone will have
had their chances to repent of their sins. Everyone will have heard the message:
worthy is the Lamb that was slain.
Revelatoin 5:13-14, And every
creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as
are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour,
and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the
Lamb for ever and ever. And the four beasts said Amen. And the four and twenty
elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.
Blessing, honour, glory,
and power belong to God. How often men fail to recognize this. You would think
that what would happen when a person hears the amazing and wonderful true story
of how Jesus died for their sins that they would respond and say: blessing,
honour, glory, and power be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the
Lamb. But more often than not that is not what happens.
Here at the beginning of the great tribulation just before the
antichrist rises to power every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth,
and under the earth, and such as are in the sea will say blessing, honour,
glory, and power be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne. What a gospel
witness that will be to the world. Why would God have such a thing occur?
Perhaps as one final word of testimony to try and get those on the earth to
repent before the judgment begins.
Yes the day of the LORD is coming. It has been 2000 years since
Jesus suffered and died on the cross. That is 2000 years of unrepented sins on
the nations of this world. The day is coming when God will judge the nations of
the world. And there is only one who is worthy to mete out the judgment of God
and that is Jesus Christ the lamb who was slain before the foundations of the
world.
Turn from your sins today to the loving savior and escape the
judgment of God.
