Luke 5:30-32“I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance”

The Bible says in Luke 5:30-31, “But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying, Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners? And Jesus answering said to them, they that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.”

They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.

Jesus preached the gospel. There is no one in this world who has ever preached the gospel the way Jesus has preached it. Jesus is the greatest gospel preacher. Jesus’ message here is for sinners to repent of their sins to Christ to be saved. This is why Jesus came and died on the cross for the sins of the world, that men might be saved.

Jesus came to the sinners and the publicans; he came to the whores and the tax collectors and the murderers and the people in that society that were base. He came to them all to preach to them about how he would die on the cross for their sins. When Jesus preached, it was with power.

The pharisees and the scribes where the educated people of society that had degrees, power, and religious influence. But they were not believers. These kinds of people often are not true believers and they use their power and influence to oppose the gospel just as they opposed Jesus in His day.

Jesus had a simple message, a true message: He came to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance. Are you a sinner?

Why do sinners need to repent of their sins? Because it is appointed unto man once to die but after this the judgment. If all are sinners, then how does one become righteous? This is the important question that you need to know and the Bible answers this question. Is it of works, or is it of faith in Jesus? Jesus fulfilled the law and suffered and died on the cross for your sins and rose from the grave. Righteousness, justification comes by faith in Jesus Christ the Son of God.

Jesus said many are called but few are chosen. God so loved the world. Jesus died for every sinner. Jesus calls them all to repent. How do we know that Jesus calls them all to salvation including both you and me? Would Jesus call someone to not repent of their sins? Of course not.

Romans 6:20-21, “For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed?”

Romans 3:20-24, “Therefore by he deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”

We are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

The Pharisees and the scribes did not really believe in forgiveness and they did not teach forgiveness of sins. What they did was bind heavy burdens upon people. Forgiveness of sins is what it is all about because God is love.

God is love. Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus came not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.

Are you righteous? Have you fulfilled the law? Are you a sinner and do you need to repent of your sins? What is repentance? Repentance is to change your mind about sin, and to admit it is sin, to be sorry for it, and to go God’s way instead of your own sinful selfish way in your lusts.

John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Do you want everlasting life with God or do you want to have the pleasures of the world for a season? Forgiveness of sins is what the world needs. The world needs the love of God. Jesus’ forgiveness is eternal. It can wipe away sin and wipe away the shame of your sins. Therefore, we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Man cannot justify himself. Justification comes from God. Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Jesus said I am not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance. Are you a sinner? Have you opposed the gospel? Then repent of your sins to Jesus Christ and be saved.

John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
