John 14:31, “That The World May Know”

The Bible says in John 14:31, “But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.” Jesus loves the Father. And we should love the father. Jesus loves the Father. God is love and therefore God loves you.

Jesus said, “That the world may know that I love the Father.” What was Jesus talking about. What was it Jesus was going to do to show the world that He loved the Father. He submitted unto the will of God, submitted unto the cross of Calvary where he died for the sins of the world. This is how he submitted. This is why the Bible says in Philippians 2:6-8, “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

And in the same sense this is how the world knows that we love the Father: by loving Jesus. Jesus said if ye love me keep my commandments. Submit unto the will of God. Do what God wants you to do today. Pick up your cross and follow Jesus. What is your cross? It is the work God has for you to do for him. What is your cross? It is whatever suffering God brings your way in life.

Philippians 2:5, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”

“That the world may know…” Jesus loves the Father. Jesus obeyed the Father. Jesus went to the cross and died and rose again so that the world might know that God is love. The question now is what will you do “that the world may know?” Will you submit to Jesus? Will you do his will?

The gospel of John 14:10 says ,Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.”

Do not ever doubt that Jesus is God. Jesus said, “I and the Father are one.” This verse shows something of the unity and equality of Jesus and God the Father to each other.  Jesus said concerning his works, “The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.”

Jesus also said abide in me and I in you. It is God that enables us to serve him.  When a person is saved the Holy Spirit comes to dwell inside of you and the power of the Spirit is what enables you to do what is right and to serve God. When you do the works of God it is not because of your own great strength or wisdom but because God dwelleth in you. He doeth the works.

O yes, we owe it all to Jesus. Jesus paid it all, all to him I owe. Sin had left a crimson stain. He washed it white as snow. It is all about the forgiveness of sins that is in Jesus Christ.  What shall it profit a man, Jesus said, if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul. There is nothing more precious than the eternal souls of men. And that is what this life is all about winning souls for Jesus.

God doeth the works. God saves them. All we have to do is live by faith, trust in Jesus and his word. and pick up our cross and follow him. All we have to do is tell others what Jesus has done for us by dying on the cross for our sins: “that the world may know.”

John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that whosever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” That the world may know that God is love, trust in him. That the world may know that Jesus loves the Father, tell them the gospel. That the billions of lost souls in the world might be snatched from the flames of hell obey God. Keep his commandments by living by faith that the world may know they need to be saved from their sins and that there is salvation. There is eternal hope in Jesus Christ.

Most of this world is lost in its sins. Therefore, give them the love of God. Love them as Jesus loved them. Forgive them when they wrong you. Turn the other cheek. Pray for those that hate you. Love your enemies. That the world may know that Jesus Christ is God and came down to earth, being found in fashion as a man, and died on the cross for the sins of the world rising again and defeating death. There is eternal life in Jesus Christ and heaven is a place that knows only love. That the world may know, do your part in the gospel. Tell everyone about Jesus and his glorious gospel.

The time is short. Life is short. Jesus said, “behold I come quickly.” Serve God today while you can for tomorrow you will bow at his throne. If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you can know him today. You can know him right now. He will forgive you of your sins and save you. Pray to him right now and receive his everlasting love.
