HEBREWS 6:1
“The Principles of The Doctrine of Christ”
Hebrews chapter 6:1-3, “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ,
let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance
from dead works and of faith toward God. Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of
laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
And this will we do, if God permit.”
Hebrews chapter 6 verses
1-6 is a passage of scripture which explains the importance of a Christian to
repent of sin to Jesus just as it says in I John 1:9, “If
we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to
cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
All have sinned and come
short of glory of God. The wages of sin is death. All sin causes destruction
and death in a person’s life whether you are a Christian or not. Adam ate a
piece of fruit when God commanded Him not too and sin entered into the world.
Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? Yea, the sinners in
Is there sin that you need
to repent of to Christ? Only Christ can forgive sins. If you have never repented
of your sins to Jesus then you need too to have eternal life. There is more to
the Christian life than just the confession of sin to Jesus. The principles of
the doctrine of Christ are the basics the beginnings of law and grace, 69 in
Christ Jesus. This is that and that is This. This grace is that law. That law
is this grace. This law is that grace. That grace is this law. Mercy and
judgment, vengeance and redemption, law and grace in Christ Jesus bleeding on
His cross both in grace and in law is the beginning of the doctrine of Christ.
1 Peter 1:18, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with
corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by
tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a
Lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the
foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last time for you.”
Before the foundation of
the world the Lamb was slain. Tis true the will of God, the gospel of Jesus
Christ will bring all Christians to become like Enoch who walked with God and was
not because God took Him. Enoch was translated that He should not see death.
And those who are alive at the twinkling of an eye shall be too. To understand
the Jealousy of God, to know all the promises of God and all the names of God
in all their law and grace is to move on unto perfection. Hast thou heard the
secret of God? Canst thou tell the number of the stars? Darkness is under God’s
feet.
Hebrews chapter 6:1-2
says, “Therefore leaving the principles of the
doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the
foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God. Of the
doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the
dead, and of eternal judgment.”
Therefore leaving the
principles of the doctrine of Christ. The word principle means beginning. The
word principle is used in Matthew 19:4, “And He
answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that He which made them at the
beginning made them male and female.” The word principle is used in John
1:1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.”
The word is also used in John 8:44, “Ye are of your
father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from
the beginning. And abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.
When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the
father of it.”
Matthew 19:4, “And He answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that
He which made them at the beginning made them male and female.” At the
beginning or at the principles of the doctrine of Christ.
Now in talking about the
repentance of sin unto salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ the
principles, the beginnings, the basic bible doctrines of Christianity are
explained here in Hebrews chapter 6:2. Hebrews chapter 6:1-2 says, “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ,
let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance
from dead works and of faith toward God. Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of
laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.”
There are 4 basic
doctrines listed here: the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of
resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
Listing these doctrines
gives a picture, a brief summary of how
the Christian life should go from the time of salvation unto the time that a
saint goes home to be with the Lord.
“The
doctrine of baptism.” Baptism in the Bible some of the time refers to
physical emersion in water. But sometimes it refers to spiritual baptism. In
this verse it refers to spiritual baptism. In other words true baptism is the
salvation of the soul when a person repents of their sins to Jesus and the Holy
comes to dwell upon them in newness of life.
Matthew 1:4, “John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism
of repentance for remission of sins.” The true baptism is the baptism of
repentance. Water literally does nothing except clean your body physically.
Anytime take a shower or bath that’s a baptism but not a spiritual baptism.
I Corinthians 1:14 says, “I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and
Gaius.” This is the Apostle Paul talking. Now me personally, William E.
Night, I have never baptized anyone. I thank God that I baptized none of you.
There is no commandment in the Bible that say water baptism pleases God: no
commandment. Spiritual baptism pleases God just as the prophet John the Baptist
preached Matthew 1:4, “John did baptize in the
wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for remission of sins.”
In looking at Christianity
today and thinking about every denomination in Christianity most of them have
something to say about water baptism. I say go take a shower and you just
baptized yourself. If you want to please God the baptism of repentance by
believing on the Lord Jesus Christ pleases God.
Jesus Himself illustrated
this at the beginning of His public ministry.
Matthew 3:16 says, “And Jesus, when He was
baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were
opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and
lighting upon Him:” O! That I had wings like the wings of dove. Seek
that ye may excel in the excellency of the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Baptism
is when the Spirit of God touches a heart to repent of sin to Jesus Christ then
the Spirit descends upon you washing from your dead works by the grace of God
and giving you a newness of life in Christ Jesus.
Romans 6:1-4 says, “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace
may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer
therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ
were baptized into His death? Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into
death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
From the foundations of
the world the Lamb that was slain gives newness of life to those by the baptism
of repentance of sin unto Christ. This is what baptism means. There is no
sprinkling of water or dunking under water that pleases God. Not in any kind of
way is it a commandment. The only commandant is that men repent of their sins
and turn to Jesus Christ. This is what baptism means. If you do not understand
this basic truth you ask yourself are you under law or under grace? Do you
understand basic Bible doctrine? All of organized religion teaches baptism the
wrong way even the conservative fundamental Baptists do not understand
spiritual baptism. Water baptism does not please God. Only the baptism of
repentance of sin to Jesus Christ.
I William E. Night preach
the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Fbi and the Cia and to homeland security and
to the persecuted Church of this World and I thank God that I have never
baptized anyone. The only one who truly baptizes is Jesus through the Holy
Spirit. Now of course there is nothing wrong with getting physically baptized
be it by dunking or sprinkling but it will not please God. It should simply
serve as a public testimony that you are a Christian. If you think that
physical baptism pleases God then you are fallen from grace. Why trimmest thou
thy way to seek love. The baptism of repentance of sin to Jesus Christ pleases
God.
Therefore in
leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ let us first understand the
basic Bible doctrines. Baptism is the first one because true baptism is the
repentance of sin to Jesus Christ and the newness of life you receive when the
earnest of the Spirit of God comes to dwell with you. In a way it is like the
way of a man with a maid in marriage you and the Father through the Holy Spirit
become one because of Jesus Christ.
Another way to
explain spiritual baptism as opposed to physical baptism is what it says in
Hebrews 6:1, “the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith
toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms.” Of faith toward God, of the
doctrine of baptism. What is baptism? Faith towards God. Believing the promises
of God is baptism. Taking a shower or bath is not spiritual baptism even if
that sprinkling or emersion is done in a religious building in front of people.
Yes it is good to make public confessions of your faith in Christ but make sure
you understand how to please God. The just shall live by faith. Why trimmest
thou thy way to seek love?
The second
basic Bible doctrine listed here in Hebrews chapter 6:2 is, “and
of laying on of hands.” The laying on of hands refers to the calling of
God and the enabling of God, the spiritual gifting of God, and the preparing of
God in a Christians life for the work and the will of God in this life.
Ephesians 4:11-12, “And He gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some,
evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers. For the perfecting of the saints,
for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:”
Jesus gives a Christian spiritual gifts upon salvation. The laying of hands refers to the literal
laying on of the hands of other Christians in church service. The reason that
Paul talked about this ceremony is because it is in a way like physical
baptism, a public way for a Christian to witness to the church the ministry and
the work that God has called that person to do in life.
To understand the meaning
of the doctrine of the laying on of hands consider these 3 verses in the New
Testament which use the same word: Acts 8:18, “And
when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles hands the Holy Ghost was
given…” I Timothy 4:14, “Neglect not the gift
that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on off the
hands of the presbytery.” 2 Timothy 1:6, “Wherefore
I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee
by the putting on of my hands.”
In kindergarden I was
taught to keep my hands to myself. Most children unless they are not well
behaved understand to keep their hands to themselves and not touch strangers.
But the laying on of hands here in a church setting is symbolizing how God puts
His hand in a Christian’s life.
Psalms 37:23-24, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he
delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for
the LORD upholdeth him with His hand.” God used His hands to form man
out of the dust of the earth. And when God in His grace touches a heart so that
that person turns from their sins to Jesus Christ God also in His
lovingkindness gifts a Christian spiritual and enables them with His hands.
In understanding the
doctrine of the laying on of hands or in other words the calling and enabling
of a Christian by God I Samuel 3:1-11 says, “And the
child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was
precious in those days; there was no open vision. And it came to pass at that
time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that
he could not see; And ere the lamp of
God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel
was laid down to sleep; That the LORD called Samuel:and he answered, Here am I.
And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I
called not; lie down again. And the LORD
called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am
I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down
again. Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD
yet revealed unto him. And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he
arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli
perceived that the LORD had called the child. Therefore Eli said unto Samuel,
God lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak,
LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. And
the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then
Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth. And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold,
I will do a thing in
Here is an the story of
God’s calling of the first prophet of the Old Testament, Samuel. Samuel was
just a child when God called him to be a prophet. In looking at this story what
should be noticed is that the first time God called Samuel Samuel did not
understand that it was God calling Him. Of course Samuel was a young child. But
the second time God called Him The priest Eli helped him to understand that God
was calling him.
I Timothy 5:22 says, “Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other
men’s sins: keep thyself pure.”
The doctrine of the laying
on of hands refers to God calling and enabling a Christian to serve Jesus. For
this to happen A Christian must understand God’s calling and know the word of
God. This is why the Bible says lay hands on no man suddenly. This is why in
the story of Samuel the Bible says, “That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I. And
he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I
called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down. And the LORD called yet
again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou
didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again. Now
Samuel did not yet now the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed
unto him. Therefore Eli said unto
Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shallbe, if he call thee, that thou shalt say,
Speak, LORD.”
The reason the apostles
made the laying on of hands a public ceremony in the early church 200O years
ago is for this very reason in the book of 1st Samuel. Sometimes it
takes the wisdom of the elders of the church or in Samuel the child’s case over
3000 years ago the old priest of God to help recognize the calling of God. In
today’s age most organized Christian denomination’s do what is called a public
ordination service for the preachers. In a way this is like the laying on of
hands that the apostles did. The important truth to remember about the laying on
of hands or about a public ordination is that of itself it is nothing more than
a ceremony. Samuel was called of God. The truth is all Christians are called of
God if they are true believers in Jesus Christ.
It is a mistake of
organize Christianity to only have public ordination services for only the
preachers. All Christians are called of God.
Ephesians 4:11-12, “And He gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some,
evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers. For the perfecting of the saints,
for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:”
Every Christian is called of God, anointed of the Holy Spirit, and given
spiritual gifts. Now just like water baptism a public ordination is not really
important. But the mistake of organized religions is that they only emphasis
the public ordination of preachers? What about the spiritual gifts of other
Christians, the givers, the ones with the gift of compassion, the Christians
who are called to be administrators, and many other gifts for the teaching of
the word of God?
This is why the laying on
of hands is a basic Bible doctrine. God calls and enables Christians not men.
All Christians not just the preachers are important to Jesus Christ in the
world wide work of the glorious gospel of Jesus. It would be much better for a
church to have a public ordination service for every Christian when they are
called of God and not just the preachers. This would help the unity of the
believers. It would also keep the preachers from being so prideful.
Concerning the laying on
of hands and the hand of God in a Christian’s life the most important principle
to remember is perhaps Psalms chapter 1:1-3, “Blesssed
is the man that walked not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the
way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in
the law of the LORD; and in His law doth he meditate day and night. And he
shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his
fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth
shall prosper.”
Samuel was a child when
God called him to be a prophet. It is true that it is best to get an early
start at living for Jesus Christ. But it is also true that a tree takes years
to grow great and strong. Moses was 80 years old when God called him to lead
the children of
The world looks down on
older people and focuses on younger people. The reason the world does this is
because the world is controlled by those who hate the truth. They want to
dominate and put the world in slavery and therefore they hate older people
because they know that older can mean wiser. But the truth is older people,
especially older Christians are often much wiser much stronger, much more
capable to accomplish the will of God and the work God and to bear more fruit.
God uses time. God created time. God takes His time with hands of
lovingkindness just as a bridegroom with his hands will take his time on his
bride. A tree planted by rivers of water that bringeth forth His fruit in His
season.
Lay hands on no man
suddenly. The doctrine of the laying on of hands is a basic bible doctrine. A
babe in Christ should understand this doctrine.
It is basic bible teaching. The benefit of the doctrine of laying on of
hands is that a Christian can rely upon the wisdom and Bible knowledge of other
Christians who have walked with the LORD for many years and use that wisdom to
help recognize God’s calling in their own life. This is how Samuel did it; with
the laying of hands of Eli. But just like baptism one should understand the
difference between that which is physical and that which is spiritual.
The third Bible doctrine
listed in Hebrews chapter 6:2 is “and of resurrection
of the dead.” In other words eternal life in Jesus Christ. Physical life
and spiritual life are not the same thing. The physical is what we can see,
sense, taste, feel, touch. The Spiritual
cannot be seen. The physical is that
which is temporary. The spiritual is eternal. The doctrine of the resurrection
of the dead is a basic Bible doctrine and is very important. Eternal life in
Jesus Christ is the great hope of the believer.
And of the resurrection of
the dead, by one man sin entered into the world and as in Adam all men die for
man at his best is vanity because the wages of sin is death and by such doeth
God seek to correct man for iniquity for all have sinned and come short of the
glory of God and it is appointed unto man once to die but after this the judgment.
Ah! Eternal, everlasting
life. To be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty
of eternal life such liberty such glory, such righteous, godly perfection is
hope indeed.
I Corinthians 15:19 says,
“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are
of all men most miserable.” In seeking after the gospel of Jesus Christ,
in preaching of Jesus Christ, in living the gospel of Jesus Christ what should
be remembered is that the gospel of Jesus Christ is a glorious gospel and an
everlasting gospel.
Man has a desire, the
desire to live and not just to live but to live for ever. Perhaps this is why
most human beings do not think much about the truth that one day they will die
be it from old age, disease, war, accident, or circumstance. Death entered into the world because of sin. Physical
death is a consequence of sin. Of course there is a difference between physical
death and spiritual death.
Physical death is very
brief but spiritual death lasts for ever. Spiritual death is the eternal
judgment of God for sin. Physical death is simply a consequence of Adam and
Eve’s sin in the Garden of Eden.
John 3:16, “For God so loved the word, that He gave His only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting
life.”
To know and to understand
basic Bible doctrine means that if you are a Christian you will think about,
believe, and have great hope in the promise of eternal life.
There are many reasons the
doctrine of the resurrection of the dead is important. I Corinthians 15:19
says, “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we
are of all men most miserable.”
For the most part
Christians in this world tend to be persecuted, cast down in society, and
murdered because the world in a way belongs to the devil and there is great
opposition towards the truth of the Word of God. It is Jesus verses the devil
in this world. Jesus wants men to have eternal life. And the devil wants to
keep men lost in their sins and cast into eternal punishment with him. For a
Christian to become a tree, for a Christian to stay faithfully living for
Christ, for a Christian to be a gospel gem in this world then you must
understand the basic Bible doctrine of eternal life. If what you look forward
to in life is eternal life then the storms of life that come your way will not
leave you ship wrecked in your faith.
If in this life only we
have hope in Christ, wear of all men most miserable. Remember that eternal life
is eternal. If eternal life in Jesus was based upon your sinfulness or your
good works it would not be eternal life because you are a sinner. The Bible
calls eternal life eternal because it is based on the grace of God. That which
is eternal lasts forever. Therefore the spiritual life which is found in Jesus
Christ upon salvation, being based upon the grace of God and not our own works,
is eternal everlasting life.
John 10:28 says, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never
perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand.”
I John 5:11 says, “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal
life, and this life is in His Son.”
There is great tragedy in
death. Often when we love those we love or when we are close to death then we
think about the temporariness of life. Man at his best is vanity. What shall it
profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?
Consider these phrases in
the Bible which give a description of the Christian life especially for those
who are flaming cherubims of the gospel of Jesus Christ: by honour and dishonour, by evil report and
good report: as deceivers, and yet true; As unknown, and yet well known; as
dying, and, behold we live; as chastened, and not killed; As sorrowful, yet
always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; has having nothing, and yet
possessing all things. In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in
watchings, in fastings, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in
distresses. Sometimes in this world today Christians are stoned, even sawn
asunder, truly tempted, tormented, given trials of cruel mockings.
When you consider all the
things that A Christian might suffer in this world because of the hatred of the
devil and the devil’s children, “If in this life only
we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.”
Tis no wonder that the
resurrection of the dead is one of the principles of the doctrine of Christ.
Eternal life, everlasting life is the great hope of a saint. Jesus rose from
the grave and so too shall I one day and so too shall you
It is not good to eat much
honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory. Yet a glorious
church, a glorious body, a glorious gospel, the glorious appearing of the great
God and our Saviour Jesus Christ, is the glorious hope of eternal life.
“and
of resurrection of the dead.” To speak of physical death, death itself
is painful and scary. To fear death itself is a normal human emotion. Physical
death, being a consequence of sin is something that God uses to touch a
person’s heart to repent of their sins to Jesus. There are many in this world
whom have gone their own way in life instead of God’s way and then at last at
when suffering under the shadow of Death have at last given consideration to
truth that as in Adam all men die. Concerning basic Bible doctrine a babe in
Christ should understand the resurrection of the dead.
How shall not the
ministration of the Spirit be rather glorious? For our light affliction, which
is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of
glory: eternal life by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
The 4th and
final basic bible doctrine mentioned here in Hebrews chapter 6 is, “and of eternal judgment.” And of eternal life and of
eternal judgment: eternal life is part of eternal judgment for in speaking of
eternal life and eternal judgment in Jesus Christ there is eternal life and
eternal death. Both are eternal judgment. Eternal death is eternal judgment for
those that reject the gospel of Jesus Christ and eternal life is eternal
judgment for those that repent of their sins to Jesus.
The word judgment is
itself a good word, a great truth especially when judgment speaks of the
judgment of God. God is a God of love and God loves judgment. Judgment can mean
grace and mercy and judgment can mean vengeance and indignation. Both are the
judgment of God. Law and grace in Christ Jesus is the judgment of God.
Therefore in understanding
the basic bible doctrine of eternal judgment, or if you want to call it one of
the principles of Christ,
Judgment must being at the
house of God think of eternal judgment as divided into two: the judgment of the
believers and the judgment of the lost.
Revelation 20:11-15, “And I saw a great
white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven
fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and
great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was
opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things
which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up
the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were
in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and
hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever
was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
I will feed them with
judgment. When the judgment is set and the books are opened and judgment and
the Ancient of days comes and judgment shall be given unto the saints of the
most High.
Woe to the land shadowing
with wings. 2 Peter 2:4, “For if God spared not the
angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains
of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;” In otherwords concerning eternal judgment both believers
and non Christians should realize even the angels go into the eternal judgment
of God. And in this world of being so near the end of the age of grace where
men often fall into the worshiping of angels just remember the doctrine of
eternal judgment.
For a Christian eternal
judgment is something good that refers to rewards for living for Jesus for a
person lost in their sins eternal judgment means the wrath of God in the lake
of fire lest that person should come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their
personal savior.
2 Peter 2:9, “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of
temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:”
I John 4:17, “herein is our love made perfect, that we
may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this
world.”
The principle of eternal
judgment in Christ is important to understand to grow from a babe in Christ and
move on unto perfection because God loves judgment. God is eternal. God’s
judgment is eternal. God’s judgment includes both law and grace in Christ
Jesus. Knowing the judgment of God will greatly affect the growth of A
Christian’s faith and their ability to do a glorious gospel work in this world.
A good way paint a picture of the judgment of God so that includes both the Old
and the New Testament, the past, the present, and the future and Jesus bleeding
on His dying, and rising from the grave is to consider the urim and thummim and
the breastplate of judgment which the high priest wore in the Old Testament.
Urim and Thummin picture law and grace in Christ Jesus.
Exodus 28:15-36, “And thou shalt make the breastplate of judgment with cunning
work; after the work of the ephod thou shalt make it; of gold, of blue, and of
purple, and of scarlet, and of fine twined linen, shalt thou make it. Foursquare it shall be being doubled; a span
shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof. And thou
shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row
shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row. And
the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. And the third
row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. And the fourth row a beryl, and an
onyx, and a jasper: they shall be set in gold in their inclosings. And the
stones shall be with the names of the children of
Precious stones and gems
are used by God both on the breastplate of judgment in the Old Testament and in
heaven in the city of
Hebrews chapter 6:1-3, “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ,
let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance
from dead works and of faith toward God. Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of
laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
And this will we do, if God permit.”
The principles of the
doctrine of Christ paint a picture of how the Christian life goes from the time
of salvation unto a saint goes home to be with the Lord in heaven. A lost
person repents of their sins to Jesus and becomes saved. God calls a Christian
and gifts a Christian with abilities to serve Jesus in the gospel and guides
that Christian through life with His hand. Then one day a Christina dies and
knows the resurrection of the dead through Christ and then goes on into the
eternal judgment of rewards in heaven. This is the basic Bible doctrine without
it you will not grow beyond a babe in Christ. Learn it and move on to greater
works of faith for Christ.
This we will do, if God
Permit Hebrews chapter 6:1-3, “Therefore leaving the
principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying
again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God. Of
the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the
dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit.”
